Crowns and Bridges
At Six Twelve Family Dental, our team is dedicated to providing for your oral health needs and helping you and your loved ones maintain healthy, beautiful smiles for life. When teeth are damaged or missing, our natural-looking dental crowns and bridges offer a permanent solution to restore your smile’s strength and appearance.
When Your Tooth Needs Help
Dental crowns and bridges are necessary in various situations to protect and restore damaged or missing teeth. A dental crown covers the entire tooth from the biting surface to the gum line, providing strength and protection from further breakage or damage caused by chewing. You may need a crown if you have:
- A tooth with multiple breakages
- A tooth with a pre-existing crack or a high risk of fracturing
- A tooth that has been treated with a root canal
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth, restoring your smile’s appearance and function. However, if there are too many missing teeth in the same area of the mouth or if the natural teeth next to them are compromised structurally (eg, moving or affected by active gum disease), a bridge may not be the best option. In such cases, we must control these issues before recommending crown and bridgework.
Steps on Your Treatment Day
Before your crown or bridge treatment, our team will thoroughly evaluate your oral health and discuss your options to develop a personalised care plan to address your specific needs. If you have any active gum disease or other dental issues, we will work to control these problems before proceeding with your crown or bridge.
Both dental crowns and bridges typically involve two separate appointments. We prepare the tooth or teeth during the first appointment by trimming and shaping them as necessary. Then, we take a digital scan of your teeth and place a temporary restoration until your permanent crown or bridge is fabricated.
At the second appointment, we remove the temporary restoration and permanently fix the finished crown or bridge into place. We also provide instructions on how to carefully clean and maintain your new restoration.
